Baker Lane Vineyards

Baker Lake Vineyards View

Baker Lane Vineyards is a charmer, hidden not-quite-in-plain-sight at the western end of Baker Lane in southwest Sebastopol, not far from where the late r&b legend Johnny Otis had his home and orchard. Stephen Singer owns the winery; you can read about him here. Greg Adams is the wine maker, a collaboration with Stephen that began in 2007. (Greg also owns the property where Earthworker Farm is located.)

The winery produces Syrah, a Rhone-style blend, Pinot Noir, Viognier, and Rosé, which is particularly appealing at this time of year. The wines are beautifully made and their maker does not make the mistake of allowing alcohol levels to go too high. The rosé ($20) is a quaffable 11.9 percent. Thank you, Stephen and Greg!

Stephen knows his way around olive oil, too, and currently offers several Baker Lane Extra-Virgin Olive Oils, along with vinegar and estate honey. There is more than a little resonance between Baker Lane Vineyards and the south of France, something anyone who has explored the two regions would expect and something that is inevitable with an endeavor that is truly rooted in the earth, in a taste of place, in terroir.

Baker Lane Vineyards does not have a tasting room but is open to the general public a few times a year. The best way to find out about opportunities to visit is to sign up for the newsletter, which you can do here.
