Colleagues, a work in progress:

DaVero Olive Oil & Wine  California’s finest olive oil.  Really nice dry rosé, too.

Dragonfly Farm

Canvas Ranch  Great CSA program, fabulous eggs, excellent wool products

Laura Shafer’s Line Dry

Traverso’s Gourmet Foods & Liquors, Inc.

Aletha Soulé’s Ceramics

Mollie Katzen Designs

Cool Stuff from Renga Arts

Evelyn Cheatham’s Worth Our Weight Culinary Apprenticeship Program

Clark Wolf Company  He calls himself a consultant but, really, he’s a force of nature.

Paula Wolfert   No one matches Paula’s talent for coaxing traditional recipes from home cooks throughout the Mediterranean and translating them in such a way that home cooks in the United States can successfully duplicate the authentic flavors.

Kasma Loha-unchit   If you want great information about Thai cuisine, here it is.  Kasma teaches Thai cooking, writes outstanding books on the subject and leads tours to Thailand.

Favorite places, restaurants and otherwise:

Safari West

Saint Rose

Taverna Santi

K & L Bistro The perfect neighborhood bistro.

Water Street Bistro  They should have a web site but they don’t.  Extraordinary.  Corner of Western Ave. and Water St., just across the foot bridge from Dempsey’s.

Cyrus Restaurant A high-end restaurant without pretensions and with a remarkable sense of fun.  Don’t miss the birthday bong!

Restaurant Eloise   One of the newest restaurants in Sonoma County.  The roasted marrow bones are transcendent but you should either share them or make them your entree.  All you need is a refreshing green salad after.

The Best Place In Alaska To Watch the Aurora   Don’t listen to the major news stories that send you to Chena Hot Springs Resort, which is in a valley and not at all ideal for aurora watching.

A  reliable place to explore nutrition and related issues:

The Weston A. Price Foundation

Hawaii Links:

Big Island Lava Watch

Aloha in California

Hula in Northern California

Faith Ako   A new friend with a beautiful voice who plays a mean ukulele

Hawaii Nation    It’s the right thing

Save Punalu’u Black Sand Beach    You can help save it, wherever you live

Fresh Plumeria Flowers  Get fresh fragrant plumeria to make your own leis; this farm, located on Molokai, also sells several types of plumeria leis.  Reasonable and reliable.

Orchid, Mailie and other leis   I’ve purchased dozens of leis from Gecko Farms and have always been very happy with them.   They sell bulk orchids, too, perfect for adorning a buffet table and for making your own leis.

Hawaii Coffee Association  Why does Kona coffee taste so good? I love it iced.  Each sip is like a little trip to Big Island.

Some favorite artists:

Michel Stong  She’s the designer for Vineyard Garden of Clay Co; she also illustrated The Good Cook’s series, which I wrote in the 1990s.  We hope to work together again soon.

Mary Linnea Vaughan  Her abstract landscapes are stunning.

Elizabeth Bourne Knowles  We met at Yaddo, the artist colony in upstate New York. I adore her work.

Nancy Lorenz  Nancy was Mouthful’s producer and engineer for several years. She’s also a hula sister.

Amelia Lorenz  Talent runs in the family.

Deborah Colotti  Provocative and beautiful.

John Youngblood Photography     He’s a great musician, too.
